THE PEOPLE BEHIND THE ADVENTURE
Meet David & Lacey Keegan
Keegan's Pack Goats grew from David and Lacey's shared love of animals, the outdoors and introducing others to new adventures.
With backgrounds in animal training, outdoor education and guiding, they bring together years of hands-on experience and a passion for helping people connect with nature.
Lacey has worked with animals for most of her life, beginning with training horses as a child. She grew up participating in FFA and county fairs and earned the title of State Champion Equestrian in high school. Her extensive experience with livestock, animal care and training plays an essential role in raising, handling and developing their pack goats into confident, well-trained and dependable trail companions.
David brings years of experience in outdoor adventure, guiding, coaching and education.
From leading whitewater rafting trips on California's Kern River, including guiding professionally for Sierra South, to coaching high school wrestling and mentoring young people, he has always enjoyed helping others discover their confidence in the outdoors. His focus on safety, education and creating memorable experiences is at the heart of every adventure.
Together, they created Keegan's Pack Goats to share the remarkable abilities and personalities of these animals through educational exhibits, live demonstrations and memorable experiences for families.
A LIFETIME OF OUTDOOR ADVENTURES
Experience That Goes Beyond the Trail
For David and Lacey, adventure has always been a way of life. From whitewater rafting on the Kern River to exploring the Sierra Nevada mountains, their experiences have shaped the way they approach outdoor education, teamwork and adventure.
David's guiding and coaching background, combined with Lacey's extensive experience working with animals, provides the foundation for Keegan's Pack Goats.
Their goal is simple: to inspire curiosity, build connections and introduce people of all ages to the remarkable world of pack goats.
THREE PERSONALITIES. ONE TRAIL TEAM.
Meet Everest, Merlin & Lucky
Meet the three remarkable goats at the heart of Keegan's Pack Goats. Each has a personality all their own, from the clever thinker to the fearless youngster and the easygoing big brother. Together, they're growing, learning and discovering the world one adventure at a time.
Everest — The Clever One
Everest is the only purebred Alpine in the trio. Smart, observant and always curious, he's constantly figuring things out, especially when peanuts are involved!
While the others are busy eating hay, Everest knows exactly where to find David, usually hoping there's one more peanut waiting in his pocket.
Merlin — The Fearless Youngster
Merlin may be the youngest and smallest of the three, but he has an adventurous spirit that more than makes up for his size.
Courageous and full of curiosity, Merlin might just become the team's future leader, confidently guiding the other goats along the trail behind their human companion.
Merlin and Lucky are half-brothers, sharing the same father, and both are approximately 90% Alpine.
Lucky — The Big Brother
Lucky is the oldest and largest of the trio, complete with the most impressive beard!
Raised by his mother, Lucky was already weaned when he joined the family. While the others were bottle-fed, he built his friendship with David through patience, shared time and plenty of affection.
Today, he's the easygoing big brother who approaches life at his own relaxed pace.
MORE THAN PACK ANIMALS
A Friendship Built on Trust
The bond between people and pack goats begins long before the first trail adventure. Through gentle handling, patience and time spent together, these remarkable animals learn to trust their human companions.
As they grow, training helps them develop the confidence and skills to follow, explore and work together as a team.
And when the packs come off, the friendship continues. Whether resting nearby, exploring their surroundings or simply enjoying time together, pack goats are much more than animals that carry supplies. They're true outdoor companions.
From early bonds to shared adventures.
LOOKING AHEAD TO 2027
New Adventures on the Horizon
The adventure doesn't stop at the fairgrounds!
David and Lacey are looking ahead to 2027, with plans to introduce guided pack-goat adventures that give outdoor enthusiasts an opportunity to experience the trails alongside these remarkable animals.
Stay tuned as we prepare for the next chapter of Keegan's Pack Goats!
